Medals

Something to go on the breast-plate...?

How to gain a medal

If the Militia Command (the officers and division masters) ever feel a Guard has earned the right to a medal, they will talk it over between. Thereafter, a command vote must be passed, if the guardsman in question DOES deserve a medal, and if they have completed what was required to get the medal, this will be remembered until the next parade.

When you have a medal, you show it in two ways. There will be a section on the tome, which shows all medals of all guardsmen. There isn't really any physical medal, but rather you write it down in your Character Profile on your paperdoll.

Warning!

  • If you are caught writing down a medal in your profile which you do not have, you will most probably be demoted one or even several ranks.
  • Even if the Command has decided you are worthy of a medal, you may NOT carry it until you are given one.
  • You may never point out, whine or alike, per icq or in game, that you feel you deserve a medal, or that you have completed one or several of the criteria for one. This is a decision ONLY the Command may take. If you do this, you will loose the right to the medal.
  • Medals are not cumulative. If you, for example, gain the King's Silver Ankh or Anvil, it replaces your Bronze one. This also means you do not get more than one of each medal.
  • If a guardsman is ever thrown out, or deserts, they are stripped of all their medals. (ignore the profile if they were so foul as not to erase it) Same goes for outsiders wearing medals - of course they are fakes!

What medals are there?

Name and Criteria Medal
The King's Bronze/Silver/Gold Ankh

For devout service to the King and Yew in 6/12/18 years. Divide time by twelve to get the RL equivalent in time.

The King's Silver Pen

Recognition for a serious, well made, useful and updated document or addition to the Militia tome. (example could have been adding an extensive picture gallery, a history archives, or some sort of private news site - boards and other such things, we will keep limited, so that no spam may be generated)

Wisdom Cross

For a really good invention adding to the Militia's culture and enjoyment. Merely coming up with the idea doesn't count. It must be something that fits, and is in a roleplaying context. Nothing such trivial as "dungeon crawls" (good example could have been those who invented the roadblock, the taxation and escorts, the last man standing and the Orders section) Also, you must have brought it to life by promoting the idea, and talking it over with others.

The Iron Heart

An addition to The King's Ankh, rather than a medal of it's own. It is a small iron heart, that you with a delicate silver chain strap around your Ankh. It is a sign of eternal devotion to the Militia, and means that you will for all times serve, and the day you are gone, the day you are dead. (ooc meaning: "I stay in the Militia, as long as I play uo, and I will always stay true to it's spirit." - I've seen a few players promise this, and I felt they should gain some recognition for this grand promise.)

This is the only medal you may actually ask for, but you won't be given it unless the Command really does believe you will hold the oath, and you have shown strong devotion for the Militia cause and spirit. (taken in a vote). The Iron Heart does count as a medal towards nobility.

The British Crest

In the event of great heroic and epic deeds, involving a lot of guardsmen (the fame of one single guardsman isn't enough - he has to have lead many in this glorious deed, and somehow stood out). It has to be something legendary, that is spoken of and known about through ages to come, and publicly well known far away even from Yew. The ceremony must take place within the walls of the Lord British's castle.

The Service Cross

The Service Cross is a great honour awarded to guardsmen who, through service to the Militia have earned many Ribbons. Any Guardsman who receives a minimum of 3 Ribbons may be awarded the Service Cross medal in recognition of their contribution to the Guardsman Militia.
