Social Class
Please note:
Your current social status, copper wealth and purchases must always be recorded on your copper record.
Citizen and social class related copper purchases can be found here.
Once your character attains a certain social class you may designate members of your character's family who can also be considered part of the same social class.
Underclass
The Yewish underclass is the class that society
forgot. Left by the wayside in Yew's rapid economic expansion, the
underclass embodies all of the elements of society whose existence
people would prefer to forget.
The underclass is the lowest rung on the social ladder and is entirely optional for civilian characters, however starting from this point can also bring the most rewards with progression. Trainee and Footman rank within the Guardsmen Militia are automatically considered part of the Underclass.
Players wishing to play underclass characters are welcome to choose any conceivably suitable style or occupation for their character.
Underclass characters are severely restricted in what they can use and wear:
Earthy or dull coloured clothing only
No clothing, armour or weapons of exceptional quality
Underclass characters will be granted a guild title suiting their ingame occupation and their social status.
Working class
The Yewish working class acts as the backbone of Yew and includes the regular, hard-working peasants. They perform the back-breaking manual labours that are common throughout the protectorate.
The working class is the second from lowest rung on the social ladder and is generally the accepted starting point, many occupations are only available at working class status.
Players wishing to play working class characters are welcome to choose any conceivably suitable style or occupation for their characters, however guardsmen automatically start as working class (unless obtaining special dispensation) and must achieve substantial wealth and recognition before they can achieve a higher social status.
Working
class characters are restricted in what they can use and wear:
Normal dye tub only
Leather dye tub colouring only
No use of Tokuno dyes, Special dye tub colours, BOD reward cloth colours
Working class characters will be granted a guild title suiting their ingame occupation and their social status.
Bourgeoisie class
The Yewish bourgeoisie is an emerging entity born on the back of radical developments throughout Yew. Many own businesses and employ or practically own the working classes, whilst others occupy well paid positions that allow them to influence the course of Yewish politics and legislation for their own interest.
The bourgeoisie class is entitled to:
Employ the working class or underclass
Employ a single personal guard
Own businesses or stores
The bourgeoisie class occupies the middle rung of the social ladder and must be achieved through progression, however under certain circumstances special dispensation may be granted for new characters to start at this point.
Players wishing to play bourgeoisie class characters are welcome to choose any conceivably suitable style or occupation for their characters, however current military officers are automatically part of the bourgeoisie. Bourgeoisie class characters must achieve substantial wealth and recognition before they can achieve a higher social status.
Bourgeoisie class characters are restricted in what they can use and wear:
Special dye tub, normal dye tub and BOD reward cloth colours only
Leather dye tub colouring only
No use of Tokuno dyes
Bourgeoisie class characters will be granted a
guild title suiting their ingame occupation and their social status.
Prestige class
The Yewish prestige class having replaced for the most part the former Yewish nobility now consists of those individuals and their families that have earned influence and prominence on the back of hard work.
The prestige class whilst lofty in comparison to even the bourgeoisie are not so haughty as to distance themselves from trade and the working classes. They have achieved this level of social class through the attainment of wealth and reputation and so cannot be considered true nobility or even an upper class, yet are still considered trustworthy enough to govern certain areas of Yewish territory, in exchange for a regular fee of course.
The prestige class is entitled to:
Employ the working class, underclass or bourgeoisie
Own businesses or stores
Propose legislation to the protectorate council
Order the arrest of those beneath their social class
Employ personal guards
Attend protectorate council meetings
The prestige class occupies the upper rung of the social ladder and must be achieved through progression. It is unlikely that special dispensation will be granted regardless of the circumstances.
Players wishing to play prestige class characters are welcome to choose any conceivably suitable style or occupation for their characters. Prestige class characters must achieve substantial wealth and recognition before they will be trusted to effectively govern sections of Yew.
Prestige class characters are not restricted in what they can use and wear.
Prestige class characters will be granted a guild title suiting their ingame occupation and their social status.
