Roleplaying a Guardsman
Many guards are not Yewish born and so are not automatically blessed
with the attributes that could easily be considered the cornerstone
of a Yewish guardsman's psyche, however many guardsmen still share
the same traits.
Guardsmen are wary of those who would ride horses. Horses are often owned by wealthy snobs and as history has shown, wealthy snobs cannot be trusted.
Guardsmen do not take too kindly to those
obviously corrupted by the dark arts. Carrying a spellbook
around or casting spells is a sure-fire way to find yourself
meeting a very warm, very painful end atop a pyre.
Guardsmen fight as one and as such if one is threatened others will come to his or her aid. There are never exceptions.
Guardsmen treasure their uniform and equipment and would certainly never allow it to come into disrepair.
Guardsmen respect authority, especially that of those whom they serve under and as such always address their superiors with 'Sir' or 'Ma'am'.
Guardsmen protect the innocent first and fore mostly and would never shirk their responsibilities to the people of Yew.
Guardsmen are always quick to collect the 50 crown road tax for the maintenance of the road, even if the road isn't repaired quite as often as guardsmen would like.
Guardsmen are always willing to offer escort to any law-abiding, tax-paying citizen upon their journey to any destination within Yew.
Guardsmen rarely wander alone and find comfort around those of their own kind; after all there is safety in numbers.
Guardsmen would never go near anything that might have anything to do with wytchcraft. After all just opening that spellbook might blow your hand off.
Guardsmen would
never stoop so low as to use any enchanted weaponry or armour. A
guardsman knows better than to rely upon equipment and so has become
adept at utilising only basic armaments.
