Typical duties

Roadblocks and fortifications - Guardsmen
regularly construct roadblocks not only to defend certain areas
of Yew but also to slow down travellers or direct traffic in an
effort to collect taxes. Roadblocks or defences are generally
built out of crates, using a makeshift standing bookshelf as a
door but the more creative roadblocks are generally far more
exciting. Roadblocks are often recorded in the
'roadblock log'.
Local patrols - Guardsmen regularly patrol the
local area, including the cursed graveyard to the North West,
the Crypts to the North, the Orc Valley to the South East and
the Orc Fort and Caverns of Shame to the South West. Patrols
often venture into the residential or commercial districts of
Yew including Yew Proper or deep into the wildlands of Greater
Yew or Darkwood. Local patrols are often recorded in the
'patrol log'.
Training - Guardsmen regularly hone their
skills whether they be combat, fitness or otherwise. Guardsmen
trainings often focus on survival techniques for use out in the
wild, or specific combat techniques designed to suit certain
situations. Trainings deal with aspects of essential guardsman
life. Trainings are generally reported on the Notice Board so
that your superiors have an opportunity to see what you've been
up to.
Exploration - There is only so much exploration
the Waywatchers and the Corsairs can manage between them and
sometimes regular guardsmen can happen upon uncharted locations
or locate mythical beasts or investigate local legends.
Guardsmen can often be found exploring the new worlds such as
the Lost Lands, Malas, Tokuno or Ter Mur and document their
discoveries on the Notice Board.
Drills - Guardsmen regularly drill one another
to ensure that typical guardsmen activities are carried out with
the utmost efficiency and finesse. Parade drills, healing
drills, combat drills and formation drills are typical and
established guardsmen should be capable of performing them
almost perfectly.
Socialising - Guardsmen are never criticised
for socialising with one another, after all it is the deep bonds
that guardsmen share that allow them to rely upon one another
under any circumstances. Whether it be stood around Stonekeep
sharing banter or relaxing in the King's Deer with a mug of
Yewish Ale or a bottle of 'KABOOM!', the social aspect of life
as a guardsman is incredibly important.
Trips - Guardsmen often venture to neighbouring
settlements often with the best of intentions to enjoy an ale or
chat with the locals. However, on occasion certain antagonistic
city-dwellers decided to goad the humble guardsmen and
eventually despite their best efforts the guardsmen may find
themselves brawling in the streets. Guardsmen are
representatives of Yew at all times and should always be aware
of how their behaviour may affect relations with friends, allies
and even enemies.
Recruitment - Very often heroic guardsmen fall
in the line of duty and whilst their sacrifices cannot be
forgotten, often the most important item on the agenda is their
immediate replacement. Recruitment is vitally important to
bolster the ranks and the typical means of attaining recruits
are through the distribution of banners, the dropping of
recruitment pamphlets or the accosting of civilians. Recruitment
is a difficult task but if completed successfully will be viewed
very highly by officers. Recruitment efforts are generally
recorded in the
'recruitment log'.
Sports or games - Guardsmen have a sense of
humour and enjoy sports and nonsensical games even if they don't
like to admit it. Bagball, 'Pictionary', Mongbat Darts,
scrapheap challenges, Top Trumps, scavenger hunts, Cat and
Mouse, Denial of Death and Last Lore Standing are all
favourites.
