Guardsmen Concept

The Guardsmen Militia was once a gathering of commoners, united in the defence of the frontier township of Yew, over the decades it has evolved to resemble a professional military force not only charged with maintaining law and order within the ever-expanding borders of Yew but also the protection of the Kingdom of Britannia itself.

The ethos of the Yewish Guardsman has been forged by the savage violence of his now conquered frontier foes, the xenophobic teachings of the Avatarian Church and the rigid discipline required merely to survive in Yew.

Whilst not always as well-equipped as his enemies, the Yewish Guardsman's innovative blend of strategy, prowess and sheer determination makes him a match for any foe.

In what is arguably one of the riskiest professions in Sosaria, a Yewish guardsman can expect to face any amount of danger on any given day and relying only upon his own training and his comrades he must surmount it.

A typical Yewish guardsman is incredibly wary of outsiders and with good reason; it is rare that a foreigner would visit upon a Yewish peasant anything other than brutality and harm. Centuries of poor treatment at the hands of outsiders have forced the people of Yew and their protectors to regard the unknown as a potential threat.

This wariness coupled with isolation, brutal experiences and past successes has given rise to a strong independent streak; a Yewish guardsman would rather handle any threat alone or alongside his guard companions even with significant difficulty than rely on perceived empty offers of assistance from foreign weaklings.
