Task 8:

Attending;
Gotrek Crossarms, Order Guard.
Annwyn Brown, First Waywatcher.

I started out this morning, by having my armor repaired and my weapons checked and since it aint in either my own or Mr. Crossarms interrest to be caught standing in Stonekeep doing nothing - I suggested, we did one of the Senior tasks.

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/536/dungeonbloodzz5.jpg

We started out with a few Skeletons, Skeleton Knights and some Imps. Then we attacked a Slayer, continued and slayed a few Blood Elementals and finished off with some Deamons.

We managed to gather 13.084 crowns in total, which all was placed in the Office.

A Senior Task

The four elements, and poison!

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/poison
A vial filled with green liquid is attached with the report.

Shame, the elementals live in their dungeon like they own it. Earth, air, fire and water... what the devil, blood, some black substance, poison! Whatever the material is there's an elemental made of it. I think I saw a leather elemental too!

I flew through the first two floors filled with earthen and air elementals, they threw their wytchery against me, trying to stop me but I didn't bother to even stop for them.

The hanging bridge rocked and creaked below me.

The second glowing portal waited in front of me on the marble pedestal. The darkness at the other end of it was even more sinister. The blue light from it glowed only for a short range and the light of it was soon gone when I proceeded further.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/poison2

I didn't have to deep down the cave before a few scorpions approached me and I could see a green glow behind them, I had to take a few retreating steps before I could get rid of the scorpions and concentrate on the main target. It was a long and wearing fight of flying crossbow bolts and bolts of lightning. The result of course was clear before the struggle, it was just a matter of time and in the end I was collecting the poison of the elemental.

My brand new armour, corroded by the acid..

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/poison1

That concludes task number two.

Heal me! Help me!

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/bandage1.1

I haven't made bandages in an honest fashion in a very, very long time. Why should I now?

I was thinking about drilling the juniors in making bandages and kill two birds with one stone, but there was no juniors around.. So I just had to get my shears and go to the sheep pen.

The door opened with a creak and the bleating filled my head. Fortunately the good shepherd gathered the sheep for me and helped me to shear as well. The morning turned noon and the noon to afternoon. Finally I had enough wool to line my home with. I thanked the shepherd and gave her some crowns for the trouble and headed back to Stonekeep.

I thought we had a spinning wheel and a loom around in workshop, so there I went and I borrowed them. It felt like forever to make yarn from all that wool and I think I managed to ruin the wool of maybe five or six sheep. Early in the evening I was ready with all the cloth and it felt like such a shame to cut all that in strips of bandages. I placed the bandages in one of the drawers, which I thought was the right one.

All that cloth made in vain.

This concludes task number three.

We want you!

How to gain the interest of the masses. The green haired Civilians, the Craftsmen in their bright yellow dresses, the Hunters riding on the most imaginative steeds. The most, you cannot. But the few promising amongst the many are what matters.

Quality over quantity, I like to think.

I decided a few weeks ago that maybe I could find a few recruits in the yellow sandstone city of Luna. I stepped through the gate into the city and in my disappointment I found out it was packed with the people I mentioned above. Nevertheless I put up the recruitment stalls, the heavy crates of our colours and the many tables and leaflets, just to pull it down some half an hour later, with not even one interested.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/rec1.jpg

I was grumbling with frustration and pondered where to go.

The Covians were recruiting in New Haven some nights ago, so I thought about giving it a try in there, and give their Citizens a view of Guardsmen Militia. Before I even got my stall ready I had the first interested citizen. He was dressed in all green outfit Ugly as anything, if I may say. I didn't let that bother and handed him a leaflet and told him about us, including that the offer armour and weapons needed.

And he thought he'd get a fortune in the Militia, hah!

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/rec2.jpg http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/rec3.jpg

I finished the banner and attached the flyers while waiting for more interested recruits. There was a very promising one, I think she said Ninja to be her name. She sat around there for a long time asking questions, and I gladly gave the answers. She left with the leaflet and said we would meet in Stonekeep later. I was quite sure we'd have a new recruit any day soon, and even with that done, I would be satisfied to set back home.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/rec4.jpg

This concludes task number five.

Ice. Shivery ice.

What the hell, why not.. Before I knew it, the homely forests of Minoc darted past me as I ran towards the rocky entrance of dungeon Ice. It was a long time since I've been there, and for a reason. The biting cold stung through the thick clothing and armouring. I reached my frosty quiver for a bolt and loaded the crossbow.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/10.1

I didn't remember the dungeon was infested with vermin, they somehow heard my entry and came to me in a pack of three. Three accurate bolts and the rat men rested lifelessly on the icy floor.

Bah, snakes.. blue, red, yellow, what's the difference.

A formless mist of snow approached me with a loud howl. A blizzard inside the cave? I threw my cloak over my face and crouched down. The snowstorm hit me like a frozen whip. I shot aimlessly towards the white haze.

Hopeless. It is not often that choose another weapon over a bow.

I was staggering in pain, and I decided to arm a weapon with more sweeping effect. The staff seemed to be very close in my hand's reach and with one swirling blow the mist vanished into thin air.

After the snow covered cousins of our forest trolls and liquid lumps of blue goo, it stood in front of me. The massive nest with blueish eggs in it. The beast was nowhere in sight. I had no time to waste, a bolt in her offspring to be would make it furious. The eggs cracked with a splash of transparent mucus.

The echoing shriek was pain in my ears.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/11.1 http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/11.2

The wyrm began its dive towards me and was halted back by a bolt in it's big head. The chilling breath caught me when I took my retreating steps. The bolts just bounced off of the scaly skin, but at least I managed to keep it at bay. The poisonous claws hit me with an awful amount of pain, but I didn't let that stop me.

It's been quite some time since my first Marksman dragon kill, but this seemed to be like nothing.

A few more well-aimed arrows and bolts in the beast's head and there it fell down on the bridge over river Ice. The trophy was well worth it, the scales, the gold and a few gems as well.

Not even a scratch, exluding torn gloves and tunic.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/12.1

Ogre Ogre, hah. After this beast the ogre will be like a walk in the park. No ogre has stood in my way, alive. This one wasn't an exception.

I ran through the cold caverns putting an arrow in everything that slowed me down. This big ogre was guarded by a few probably dumber trolls, and he sent them first at me. In a swift motion two arrows pierced their flesh and the ogre lord charged with a growl and something that sounded like a foul taunt.

Two arrows and the already slow creature is immobilized. A few seconds later there was one more corpse on the snowy red floor. The task was completed, there was plenty of hunting to be done, but not now...

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/grd/13.1

This concludes task number six.

A Senior Task continuing

Bloody!

I sighed deeply and bit into an apple. Another early shift, I was having a bite and looked into the darkness of the forest and Guard Longshot was fixing his crossbow. It had been a long while since I did any of the senior tasks so it was the perfect timing. Longshot was more than enthusiastic to join. It was time to tackle the challenge to achieve ten thousand crowns from the dungeon Blood.

If any officers are reading this, I'd like evening shifts!

Stonekeep
Arduin Field
Moongate
Spirituality Shrine

The checkpoints on our speedy journey to the dungeon Blood.

We got our first spoils from the skeleton filled graveyard outside the entrance. Golden and less golden skeletons, green imps, pixies and whatever you might find from a typical graveyard.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/blood%201.1

All I could see was piles of bones and a swirling halberd of someone who looked a lot like Longshot. We got some thousand crowns from the undead.

The steep black stairs ascended into the dark dungeon.

The décor was quite gloomy. The rivers of blood bordering the pathways, the bloodfalls on the walls, one didn't want to touch anything. As we walked further we left footsteps of blood behind us - at least we would find back easily. I stepped into a pool of red liquid, presumably blood. Behind me, the pool formed silently into a shape of a... well something. When I looked back, Longshot was already hewing it. I hurried myself to get my bandages out and aid Longshot in the epic combat between man and blood!

The creature collapsed into a pool of blood again.

Now we knew the drill and after several bandages and blood elementals after we had our bags filled with spoils. The dungeon seemed to be endless and we walked to the end of the hallway where we had been slaying the shaped blood. Intangible language could be heard behind the corner and surprisingly the corridor was packed with daemons. Having gathered the required amount or gold, we decided to pray back home for the safe journey.

With a blink the forests of Yew shimmered in front.

We piled all the gold on the ground and ended up with far over ten thousand crowns. So if you find any coins in the grass outside the tavern, return it to Oliver Gray. Mister Longshot was happy with no gold, so I decided to scoop all of it into bags and save it for a rainy day.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/blood%203.1

That concludes task number eight.

Archery for Juniors, Chapter I

Guardsmen attending,
Footman Ian
Trainee Olaf
Trainee Saul Ironwood

It is required for Juniors to carry a bow at all times, but what good is a bow if you don't know which end is which or where to hold it from. The day was running short and I wanted to do the drill in daylight to avoid any greater catastrophes.

The range stood before us, it was constructed from hay sheaves, plate helms and the tiny target on top was a raw apple I didn't fancy eating. I had used similar targets before and they had proved to be both challenging and simple.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/drill

I didn't expect anyone to hit the apple.

All but one had already used a bow before and one of the Trainees had even been hunting with a bow before enlisting in the Militia. The basics went quickly and the audience was quiet, so I assume they absorbed everything.

The Guardsmen picked up the basics very quickly, or knew them well enough from before, and soon after they were shooting real arrows at the hay stacks with iron heads. The Training was quite short and simplified but it made its point and everyone was ready to use the bows against alive targets.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/drill 2.1 http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/drill 2.2

Next lesson would be full of subject matter, including different bow types and archery tactics, but that would be another lesson. Now we were ready to go..

To slay a titan, with bows of course.

The Juniors lined up at the newly built archery training range and I told them what we would be up to. I don't think they were too confident about their marksmanship, however I didn't allow any other weaponry on this patrol but bows and crossbows. We gathered at the Yew side of the moongate and were joined by another Trainee, Sharpe.

Through to Valor, and the air became denser and damper.

An excellent practice target (read 'a troll') wandered on our trail and everybody got their few shots at it before the big event. We were heading to the village of the giants. Titans, Ettins, one eyed giants and giant eyes alike. The jungles left behind us and the great wooden walls with decorated in their style of blood, chains and human skulls. The stench was dreadful even outside the walls and later I found out where it came from when I noticed the bubbling cauldrons with feet and what not popping out from them.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/titan 1

The Guardsmen were vastly more experienced with bows than I thought they would be. The half naked one eyed creatures fell down before they even reached us. Everyone of us was ready with our bows and didn't hesitate to release the accurate shots at the beasts. The village was empty of titans so we had to go outside into the woods in search of one. The red mane, shiny armour, silly weapon, that was it. A titan, the ancient colossal wytch, the Trainee's dog, our prize.

We could see the balls of fire coming towards burning the our arrows on the way. He leaped ahead crushing small trees under his feet. Now it was our time, we had time for two volleys before he was close enough. The hammer hit one of the Trainees down but before more injuries it was down with a bunch of arrows and bolts sticking out from almost every visible part of it.

In the heat of the combat, the sketch got a little hazy, thus no picture of the slain titan.

That concludes tasks number four and ten

Shadow of the orc

Idle guardsmen around Stonekeep is a rare sight and miners even more so. It was time to complete another task from the task list. To obtain two hundred shadow ingots from the orc mines. The giant slave drivers in the depths of the dungeon often hold shadow ore, but it's a very heavy substance, so in addition to the ore we'd need some ready ingots from the orc miners.

The forest was full of the green skins, more than usual, maybe they're up to something.

We stepped through the cave and were ambushed by the arrows of the orcish archers, they were dead soon after as well as a rather large group of it's kin. They had built a small fortress inside the cavern for defense, but that didn't stop us much and soon after we were climbing down to the next floor.

The fires of the forges glowed in the darkness and showed us the way.

The orc miners were close, we advanced forward leaving none alive. Many of them were packed with ingots, some with iron - others with shadow. We took everything with and and came to another mouth of a cave which had a a line of boards laid in front. One couldn't see through at all, so naturally we let the Trainee to go in first.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/shadow%202.1 http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/shadow%202.2

As I recalled, it was safe on the other side and we proceeded to the excavation site where the giants and most of the miners were. Considering that we were only a small group of mostly junior ranks, we did fairly good and took down some five of the taskmasters and quite a few lesser orcs.

The heavy ore was significantly slowing us down.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/shadow%201

We had around fifty ore and another one hundred smelted, if only we had more packs and carriers with us, we'd have ended up with another lot. Nonetheless we ended up at least with the amount necessary. We decided to fall back and start heading back. The patrol had gone very well until then, we lost Havenshawk in the darkness and shortly after he came back heavily wounded without a tunic or leggings. We found the guilty orcs, and put them out of their misery.

We returned back to Stonekeep swiftly and ended up with some 8,000 crowns and far over two hundred shadow ingots.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/shadow%203

Guardsmen attending,
Footman Ian
Footman Luke Havenshawk
Trainee Bernard Wilson

That concludes task number seven.

The list goes on and on...

Hunting, I can do that alone.. be that hunting of daemons, elder gazers or cyclopses. The only question was where to start from. Elder gazers, the floating tentacled eye balls that cast fiery spells, ah not to forget the prefix elder which qualifies them as great eye balls of fire. The snow covered still the ground when I killed these beasts, and it was a sore sight in the forests of Valor when the corpses lied down there on the untouched snow next to each other.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/eldergazer

Elder Gazers *overlined*

I recalled there was a camp quite close to this gazer forest, which was inhabited by giants of all sorts, the colossal half naked helmet wearing titan as well as the slightly more dressed-up yellow skinned cyclops and the lesser ettin which is just a nuisance mostly.

Fortunately I managed to avoid the titans and I only had to deal with the cyclopses and the ettins which for an archer is like shooting fish in a barrel. They are quite slow and if they get close it's quite easy to avoid that huge hammer they try to hit with.

The pile of enormous corpses grew bigger and bigger.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/cyclopses

Elder Gazers *overlined*
Cyclopean warriors *overlined*

Daemons, daemons, where to find daemons from! Blood dungeon, the way is full of dangers, first the graveyard, through the dark halls of blood elementals. Sounds like a challenge.

Here again..

The way was shut, blocked by throngs of skeletal beings.. knights, wytches, archers.. and the skulls, numerous of yellowed skulls on the walls and the floor. I swung my staff at them and the bones rustled on the floor. There was no time to linger, I sped past the bloodfalls inside and slew a malformation of blood on the way until I was at the crimson winged fiends of hell. Their flight was stopped short as the marksman, bolts and arrows flew in the air through them.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/daemon

Elder Gazers *overlined*
Cyclopean warriors *overlined*
Daemons *overlined*

That concludes task number one.

To do the undoable.

To make a Guardsmen Militia Officer to smile is difficult, and to make them laugh is even more so. However the task was to make an officer laugh, and there are many officers among the people of Sosaria. Be that the high-ranking Minocian guards or the officers sitting in the Bank. I chose to make a Britannian officer of the castle guard to laugh, and with success.

We started to talk about this and that, but regrettably I cannot remember well what funny thing I said, but he did burst into laughter and after a while we were having a glass in the local tavern. The man was polite and turned away to chuckle, thus the hidden face in the sketch.

I drew a sketch afterwards how it was likely to happen.

http://www.kolumbus.fi/m.halmeenmaki/UO/laugh

That concludes task number nine.

Ah decided ta make em effort on some em tasks. Scrollin through tha list ah found one tha caught mah eye. Kill kill an kill some more, do some dauntin task, then kill... Ah could handle some tha crap tasks ta geta chance ter kill.

Is been months since ah fought last. Ah seem ta head out fishin more and more lately. Readin tha task thats set, ah had a hard time decidin whar ter start. Finally ah jus said, start on one an work mah way down.

Kill five of tha followin beasts in Ilshanar. Flyin brains, daemons, an ogres. Simple task fer someone as grand a fighter ah beh. Or so ah thought. Findin em brains aint as easy as ya think after followin tha patth a bit ah were able ter track em an put a lil fight in. Were aint that hard a job, jus as all whyches, take on tha attack til em run out of castin parts.

Ah headed aroun an down tha road, through tha cave an back down ter em ogres. Simple simple... Reminds meh of old trainin day whan ah were with tha seigers. Busted a couple skulls in a matter of minuets.

Then tha hard part comes. Daemons. Them thinks jus bout killed meh, Ah used ter run circles round em. Aint sure iffen em gettin stronger or ahm just rusty. Ah get knocked down couple times, a few adventerous civvies in thar helped meh back up couple times, others ah were woke by tha ankh by tha moongate. Were a hard faught battle at first. A faught em first one in record time, tha is tha longest time fer em man ter kill one them thins alone. But it got mah blood pumpin. Ah found mah groove an were able ter get tha next couple with aint a hitch.

Next up Poison in Shame

Kros Vandor

Scratched off number one on tha list en looked at two. Kill... em poison element in Shame. Mah blood were pumpin already from earlier so ah decided tha ahd have a go at it. Ah looked through mah pack an decided it were a lil light on needed essentials. Ah rund ter mah house an searched throu mah storage. Ever since Seanna decided ter clean mah place up ah caint gind nuthin. Cure potions, em fer lassies... But in mah less en optimal state, ah decided ta error on tha safe side an have a barrel full, jus in case.

Ah headed quickly ter tha dungeon enterence an stepped inside. Mah eyes squinted as them adjusted ter tha light. Ah fergot mah damned black potion. Damnit ter far ter run back for. Ah went along tha edge feelin tha side of tha cave. Mah memory served right an ah were deep inter tha dungeon whan ah heard a yelp in tha distance. As ah rund forward a lost civvie were runnin, screamin at meh. Seems him took on more en em could handle. Ah quickly dispatched tha rock creatures attackin him an in hims thanks him gave meh a black potion. Score one fer ol Kros.

Ah pointed tha civvie inter tha caves exit, ahd showed em iffen ah were aint on mah own task, ah moved onter tha second level. Quickly ah made it ter tha water edge and though bout tossin a line once or twice... Ah jus made a mental note fer next time an moved on.

Level three. Ahm close, ahve been here before an know is jus round tha corner. Ah check mah pack one las time an pull out a bandage an clip on a couple cure potions, jus in cae, as this atin gonna beh an easy battle.

Ah turned tha corner, an thare it were glowin and stinkin like, uh, mah ships deck. Tha thin neared meh an ah swong at it relentlessly. It squeltched an cast a spell on meh. Tha battle had began. Ah made a tacticful withdraw ter lure it inter tha corridor givin it less wiggle room. Usin all tha tactics needed ter kill such a beast were used at mah best effort. Up an down, back an fourth this thin would aint die. Spell after spell, poison, poison, poison... Ah drank cure potion after cure potion, as soon as ah felt ah were aint gonna throw up, tha damn thin would hit meh again.

Finally, after wha seemed ter beh an eternity, tha final blow was made. Ah pulled one of mah empty vials from tha cure potions an dipped it inter tha goo, gatherin some of its slime for a trophy.
