A declaration throughout Yew
After discussions with trade leaders throughout Yew it has been decided that we shall begin to use the local currency known as ‘Copper’ as the official legal tender in all Yewish transactions. Many of you will find some establishments have already switched over to the new Copper which has replaced the gold coin.
By Sunday 26th October gold will no longer be tendered in Yew and will be regarded as merely a currency used for trade with the remainder of the Kingdom.
Please ensure all gold you intend on using in localised transactions is exchanged at the Treasury by this time.
After recent troubles in Yew saw inflation rocket it was agreed that a more widely accepted local currency would help to boost economic and production activity throughout the city after the value of the Britannian Crown plummeted
The current exchange rate of Yewish Copper to Britannian Gold is 1:500.
OOC: We have decided to trial run the new Copper system, more details on this will be supplied just before Sunday the 26th.
If you have any questions please ask a member of Command.

[OOC: Parts of this post are IC, some are OOC please take what is relevant as IC knowledge.
Currently copper is used almost as an OOC currency - although you receive it in game the only way to spend it is in an OOC sense (via the boards). We're hoping to change that and make copper the only currency used in Yew. Although you will find yourselves earning more copper, you will need to spend more as it will be the only way to purchase food, drink and accommodation. Even our craftsmen will only accept copper as payment for services./OOC]
Wages
As well as receiving copper for reports you will also receive an in-game 'wage'. (Remember writing reports is required for promotion and the copper rewards are much higher)
As each individual’s workload (and absences) vary there will be no 'basic' wage. You will be paid for the work and time you put in.
Copper can be earned (without the need of a report) through:
Attending events
Leading events
Building roadblocks
Collecting resources
Patrolling
And almost any other activity
Wages will be paid on the Sunday of each week - please visit the treasury.
The Treasurer will also be available sporadically throughout the week.
Any wages not collected within two weeks will be placed into the 'bonus' pot and therefore lost to the individual.
(Please note - Accuracy in regards to each individual’s wages and activities cannot be guaranteed, if you should have a complaint about your wages please use it for RP in game.)
Purchasing
Gold will no longer be accepted as payment for anything in Yew. Prices will however vary dependent upon where you shop.
It will be up to each individual tradesman or woman to decide upon prices for their wares.
Note for craftsmen: Please either update Hall of Records if you sell or repair someone’s items for Copper or let a member of Command know the details and they will sort your pay accordingly.
Tax
Tax will be automatically deducted from each person’s wages.
Anyone caught committing fraud will be punished severely.
Treasury
Gold collected from foreigners and gathered in patrols must be exchanged at the treasury. Copper will then be redistributed accordingly.
Gold can be exchanged for copper at the treasurer’s discretion.
The current exchange rate is 500 gold pieces = 1 copper.
PLEASE NOTE: FOR A PERIOD OF TWO WEEKS THE TREASURER WILL EXCHANGE GOLD FOR COPPER FOR ANYONE (with a reasonable reason behind why they would be 'rich' in Copper - to a maximum of 150 Copper).
After this time gold will only be exchanged for copper at the treasurer’s discretion.
Other Information
Your copper is for you to spend as you wish - therefore you may give/lend/borrow/pay or do anything you wish to with your copper.
Gold collected from patrols, taxes and any other means will now be used to benefit the Militia instead of being horded and having no real use.
For example - if you wish to run a multi-guild event (or just Grd) with gold prizes (however big or small) you will now be able to use Militia gold; simply ask a member of Command.
Gold will also be used to purchase ingots and resources for uniforms, housing, decoration and most importantly if for example you have enough copper to buy a stat scroll but can't afford it in gold, the Militia funds will be used to help you with this purchase!
If you want any further information about what gold will be used for please contact a member of Command.
Bonus Fund
Wages not collected within two weeks will be placed into the 'bonus' pot and therefore lost to the individual.
The bonus pot shall be shared between guardsmen once a month.
Sunday 26th
As you should be aware; this new way of awarding Copper will begin on Sunday 26th. However you won't see any immediate changes.
From Sunday the 26th we will start monitoring activity ready for the first pay day (Sunday 2nd November).
All Guardsmen will be receiving a 10 copper bonus this Sunday for their hard work during the recent food crises.
If you have any questions (or concerns) that are not covered here, please contact Floria either via PM on the boards or on ICQ# 195 710 197.

[OOC: I just want to clarify a few things as there seems to be a few whisperings 'behind the scenes' (though I do wish these concerns were voiced during the discussion process.)

IC it would make no sense to bring in a new currency system and not allow people to exchange their old coins for the new. Like when they bring out a new note in the UK you can use/exchange the old one as legal tender for a limited time.
Just because on a semi-IC notice it says you can exchange gold for Copper doesn't mean I am actually going to let you.
Copper is a unique thing to Grd, it is a reward system to encourage, motivate and also to thank people for their efforts. Grd is not about who has the most gold in game, it is not about buying your way. It's about team work, contribution and dedication.
The only time I might consider exchanging gold for Copper is when someone’s copper balance is down to zero (therefore they would have no way to eat, drink or do anything) and the amount will only be an amount suitable for basic needs.
People will not be able to buy Copper in order to purchase powerscrolls, weapons classes or anything like that.
As previously said, just because it reads one way in a semi-IC post does not mean it is the case OOC.
We're not making things easier for people to get ahead, we are attempting to make things more realistic in game.
If anyone has any further questions or concerns regarding this or any other part of the new system please PM me. /OOC]
