[/I] Appearance

With a deep blue-eyed stare, touched by a undercurrent of resilience, Bladius’ facial characteristics are more often than not his most prominent features. As despite his staggering height of 6’2” and a powerful build, a cheeky yet ember warm smile in combination with the aforementioned eyes go a long way to disproving the notion that Dart is merely a brute.
Also, whilst his skin may be littered with faint scars, his features have changed little from those of the babyfaced teenager who broke hearts and hymens in equal measure.
However, it is quite clear that Bladius is no longer that young boy who stumbled into Yew escaping his past and ready to embrace his future. Dart now appears to have reached his late thirties but whilst his body and physique remain intact, a lifetime of exposure to war, suffering and personal loss have begun to take their toll on a once unshakeable character.

Whereas once Bladius’ appearance was immaculately presented, his attention to detail has seemingly faded, with his hair generally bound into a short tuft-like ponytail or left to hang over stubbly, rugged cheeks.

History

Born to a loving mother and a hateful drunk of a father in the poverty-stricken slums of Eastern Britain, Bladius grew up as the oldest of four children. The days of his early life were spent immersed in mischief, whilst caring and cherishing for his sister Rose. However, the nights of his childhood were dominated by the savage beatings dealt out by a cruel parent under the pretence of discipline. Although far from instilling discipline in the young boy, they provoked a fiery temper easily enraged by perceived injustices.
Eventually after the family moved to Moonglow, a now adolescent Bladius rebelled one night against his father’s rage, surprising the drunkard and leaving him in an unconscious heap on the floor. Terrified of reprisals, Dart left abruptly through the moongate and found himself in Yew, cold, penniless and far from home.
After many nights of hunger, an old forester stumbled across Bladius and offered him food and shelter. Dart stayed with the man for a season before old age stole his surrogate father and left the young boy again alone and afraid. After noticing a Militia recruitment poster nailed to a wall in the centre of town and with no option but to attempt to enlist despite being merely a tall child, Bladius found himself recruited as a Trainee of the Guardsmen Militia of Yew.

Despite clearly not meeting the age requirements, Bladius clung to the pretence that he was indeed sixteen years old and took advantage of his newly found status in every way possible. In fact, Bladius spent the vast majority of his first years in the Militia waking up in the beds of young women, often reeking of booze and struggling to remember the lies he’d passed off as fact the night before. The Church never took too kindly to Dart’s escapades, confronting him on more than one occasion, however it would seem they were never fully aware of the extent of his misdemeanours, or merely turned a blind eye to a hormone fuelled teenager shagging his way through Yew. During this period Bladius’ rank and career direction swayed dramatically back and forth, from becoming a fiery Besieger recruit, to exploring his lust for adventure aboard the deck of Corsair vessels only to eventually don the bronze armour of a First Merryman.
Bladius treasured this position, believing it to be the greatest accomplishment in his life, other than waking up with identical twins a few days previously. However, with the Merrymen disbanded only a couple of months after he was promoted, Bladius found himself floundering within the ranks. Still, Duke Jaegar seemingly saw a glimmer of potential in the lad, conscripting him into his service as a noble guard alongside his brother Robert who had followed him from Moonglow. It was during this period that Bladius’ relations with his family deteriorated to the point of non-existence.
Returning home in the hope of visiting his sick mother, Dart discovered his family home burnt to the ground and all but his father no-where to be seen. A violent exchange followed, with Bladius’ battle-hardened size and strength becoming the brutal deciding factor in their bloody debate.

Upon returning from Moonglow, Bladius discovered Duke Jaegar had re-enlisted as a Sergeant in the Militia and Dart’s career as a loyal bodyguard was over.
With seemingly no career direction, Bladius began to dream of a life outside of the Militia and after taking some leave he found work as a doorman for a bar in Skara Brae. However, Dart’s womanising again landed him in trouble, after a brief but passionate affair with the owner’s wife, Louisa, Bladius was blindsided by his employer’s henchmen and was left for dead in an abandoned harpy’s nest.

From there Bladius moved to the outskirts of Cove, enlisting in the tiny Militia that existed prior to the Baronship. Here, Bladius found love and marriage as well as the delightful challenge of fatherhood to his daughter Jessica. However, Dart’s newly found happiness was short-lived, as an Orc raid upon the village of Cove and his family home shattered the dreams of Covians and Bladius himself.
In the aftermath of his loss, Dart wandered for a few months before finding himself back in Yew. Whilst the officers had believed him dead, they were quick to dismiss such notions and surprisingly welcomed him back into the fold. Now determined to make the most of his final opportunity and with nothing to lose, Bladius rose through the ranks as a junior officer before finally reaching the position of Sergeant.

Since, Bladius’ involvement with women has been more limited but no less scandalous than before, with him becoming known for his involvement in a heated love triangle with two scantily clad Waywatchers.
Time has passed since those days and Bladius is no longer a twenty-something Sergeant with no ties. In fact he now commands hundreds as the Captain of the Militia.
However, Dart seemingly never learns from his mistakes in love, as despite now being married to his beloved Tanya after a lengthy engagement, Bladius still spends far too much time visiting his first love, Louisa. A woman who has now bore him five children, two from the scandalous affair in Skara Brae and three since they were re-united after she moved to Yew to be near her daughter, Floria.
With ten children between three women, Bladius knows as well as anyone that he should keep it in his pants however a life-long desire to have his cake and eat it ensures that he has no intention of turning a besotted Louisa away. Of course Tanya is never exactly appreciative of his seemingly endless affairs but his talent with words and ability to inspire confidence and trust forces her to give him chance after chance and opportunity after opportunity to change his ways.

Personality

Bladius seemingly lives life with three personas.
At work, Dart is a dry-witted bastard, with offensive remarks never too far from escaping his mouth. He drives the men hard and is very rarely satisfied with their ‘paltry efforts’. He criticises often but with the intention of his critique being constructive rather than demoralising. Whilst he would do everything in his power to prove otherwise Bladius does actually care for the vast majority of those under his command.

At home, Dart lives for his children and can often be found crawling around on the floor with building blocks and wooden soldiers, or donning brightly coloured dresses to the amusement of his daughters.

Bladius the lover is a man perhaps many have seen but few have the privilege of knowing for long. Generous and passionate, yet mysterious and untameable are adjectives that could easily describe him, however there remains an unnamed quality that seemingly always leaves those fortunate enough to witness this layer of his personality curiously desperate for more, or so he has been informed.

Of course with any soldier there are regrets and tragedies that remain unspoken and unshared, cancerous memories that eat away at their host and leave guilty scars in their place.
