My homecoming wasn't exactly what I expected it to be. I arrived back in Stonekeep to discover that we were apparently in the grip of another famine. It was dreadful news of course but not dire. We'd suffered famine before, the last time being during the swamp days, when I was very, very young. I was prepared to just sit and wait it out, for things to get back to normal. However the tavern was then closed.. before I'd had a single drink!
So I decided I had to take action. Changing into my civvies, I went the one place I knew no one would really care if I was to steal from them. Vesper. I did wonder at first how I'd actually manage to do anything vaguely useful, but it turns out it wasn't quite as hard as I expected. All I had to do was hang round various spots, bakery's, farmers markets and so on.. and as soon as someone put down a crate or box of food I'd simply pick it up and walk away. Anyone who challenged me was informed I was a farm hand or a delivery boy and that proved enough to calm most folks.
Taking a crate or box or bag at a time I'd head to the moongate and when Yew side I'd hide the goods until I was satisfied I had a decent haul. Returning to Stonekeep was.. hard. I had to take each bit individually as they were heavy and I couldn't carry them all alone.
Once there I informed Corporal Tripps of what I had done and got the assistance of Besieger Hiroko Tanaka and Trainee Aries Harper we managed to carry the whole lot into the Medical building. that done Corporal Tripps then decided we should distribute some of the food immediately. each household was to receive a pie, bread and two vegetables. With Lumbards help we did just that.
We split up, each heading to a different part of Yew, dropping off our packages of food. it may only be a small help, but at least it's something.
