Mia Wallace

Stonekeep was very quiet when I reported for duty so I decided to make myself useful. I intended to build a roadblock. However there were no craftsmen around to assist me, so I decided I could at least gather the raw materials ready.

Eventually I stumbled across Mia Wallace and enlisted her help in building the block. We opted for a fairly simple block with a few exceptions. We built a room complete with a desk to take all the taxes to prevent theft.

Also in light of the recent invasion of Stonekeep by machines we installed a couple of super-heavy crossbows with bolts the size of short spears. If we came under attack they should be able to take down something pretty big before they reached the gate.

Researching Roadblocks

I wanted to build a roadblock that could aid the guardsman repel an enemy attack. For this I needed to do some thorough research, and I knew just where to begin. I had noticed there had been established a small library of some sort just east of Stonekeep, close to my cabin. It was filled with old dusty tomes regarding all sorts of military accomplishments and stories of old, but naught on constructing a roadblock.

Having found nothing on the matter on creating roadblocks I had to speak to someone with the knowledge on where to find it. I spoke with a scholar at Empath Abbeyto my dismay he told me to seek out the library in Britain. Reluctantly I was forced to head towards the city of posh, horrible people.

I headed towards the large library, and to my own disgust even the librarians were as posh as any other inhabitant that dwelled within the city walls. Repulsed by their treatment they gave me I managed to locate a book which contained what I sought. I found a corner within the large establishment and began to read through the countless lines of utter nonsense that only a scholar could possibly comprehend. After several hours I had taken enough notes for a common Yewian to understand the plans to build a roadblock Britain style.

Consequent to my research on the matter of constructing the best roadblock I needed some professional help in making the parts I needed to build it, for this I couldn't think of anyone else than Mia. She had helped me countless times in the past, and now I needed her yet again. May Avatar bless her good heart and soul. I also found a newly enlisted trainee, mister Rand Alduc to help me set it up - for this I ask my employer that he shall be paid half of the copper I might earn from this task.

We proceeded to build the roadblock according to the design I found in the book. The plans were simple:

Two outer doors for the enemies to divert concentration of enemy firepower in attempt to tear down the walls.
Another wall behind the outer wall in order to bring the entering enemies to a halt, offering the defending guardsmen a chance to pour boiling oil orwater onto them whilst giving them a volley.
An inner wall to repel the enemies last attempt to break through and eventually forcing close combat. Hopefully by this time the enemy would be too tired to put up with a fight, allowing the guardsmen to tear them to shreds.

After nigh on two hours, the blockade rose to bar the road leading into Stonekeep. Hopefully this method can be tried out in an exercise in order to conclude the designs truly work. A crude sketch of the result can be seen below.

Highly defensive roadblock built. It winds making it invulnerable to charge, several walls mean it is incapable of quick bypass by hacking at it with axes.
Finally there are archer holes all the way through it, making anyone that would pass through it without consent alot more sore than they where when they went into it.

But I do now know why this is normally a military thing, I have no place for ranged weapons.
