I was making bandages for a trainee in front of the tavern last evening, and you could almost hear the stomachs growling. The eating and drinking house was still closed, and those on duty were unable to leave to search for food. More and more the discussion revolved around food, mostly pie; a truly wonderous thing I recently discovered here in Yew. In the end, a guard with a blue bandana sent me off to feed him and the others, as I admitted to having kitchen experience.

I wasn't quite sure as to how exactly one makes this "pie". We do not have it at home. So the first logical stop for me was the local bakery - though they did not have any fresh ones for sale, I managed to sneak a glance at their baking, and recipe. Satisfied, I set out to gather the ingredients.
The water and flour was easy enough; the miller sold me a small sack for only a few coins, and I soon found a well where I could fill my pitcher. A local farmer parted with some of his butter after a little persuasion. All else I found in the shops, after a long search. Last but certainly not least I needed fruit for the filling. I got lost several times trying to find an orchard of sorts, and had to resort to asking one of the guardsmen for help.
He willingly supplied me with apples from the Militia's own trees, and so I could begin - but where? I have yet to find a place where I may cook and work on my own. For now, I ask and borrow as much as I may. Hopefully that will change soon. I was truly lucky that the cook of the tavern was so friendly; she granted me access to her kitchen, under her supervision.

Only a little while later, the apple pies were done at last. I set them out on the road among the guardsmen, on a blanket to keep them clean. Seemingly they turned out well, as they were soon all devoured.

And yet, pie alone was not quite good enough. Two waywatchers wished for a more substantial meal; chicken, of all things. Well, I had seen a few fowl fiends flapping around the woods before. It was not easy, but I managed to hunt them down and slaughter them. I must say, Yewish chickens are quite fast.

I prevailed, and the feathery filets did not. In all modesty I must say the guardsmen seemed overall pleased with my dishes.
