From Sunday 16th August we'll begin a trial period under which we'll test the merits of an altered rank structure.
This change has not been implemented lightly and has undergone continuous discussion and refinement over the last 9 months.

In essence the change is intended to ensure that the leaders amongst you are rewarded and encouraged to lead, whilst the followers are rewarded and encouraged to follow without constantly being pressurised into positions of leadership.

Promotional requirements and quests will be adjusted accordingly so that issued tasks are more individually appropriate, leaders will be generally required to demonstrate leadership skills, whilst followers will be required to demonstrate activity, reliability and consistency.

The altered rank structure will appear as follows:

It must be noted that the ranks placed side by side are equivalents and enjoy no greater authority than one another.

Lance Corporal will possess the same authority as a Rookie
Corporal will possess the same authority as an Accepted
Sergeant will possess the same authority as a First or Veteran.

However, all guardsmen will be expected to cooperate with NCOs in helping them carry out their tasks and responsibilities. Senior guardsmen disobeying NCOs of any rank without sufficient justification will be punished.

The only differences between equivalent ranks are the titles themselves, pay grades, responsibilities and promotional requirements.

Leaders (NCOs) will be paid more per week, however they will also be allocated responsibilities and tasks that must be completed.

More information will be released over the course of this week relating to changes in promotional requirements, potential responsibilities, pay grades and of course the all important application process for becoming an NCO.

In the mean time if you have any questions regarding the changes please feel free to contact me.

Lieutenant

The Lieutenant rank is effectively the result of the merging of the current Corporal and Sergeant ranks and is designed to ensure that IC authority and seniority within Command is based upon contribution and not upon the ranks available within an isolated structure.

e.g. A current divisional leader cannot hold the same authority as a current sergeant regardless of their input or overall contribution.
However, under the proposed system a divisional leader would in theory be able to command just as much legitimate authority as the overriding majority of Command.

Guardsmen joining Command under a trial period could be granted the temporary rank of 3rd Lieutenant, whilst new permanent entrants to Command would under normal circumstances be granted the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, with the potential of advancement to the superior rank of Lieutenant. This advancement can take place regardless of whether a guardsman commands a division or exists as a general officer of the guardsmen.

e.g. Marksman Jim Smith and Guard Jane Bloggs are promoted into Command at the entry rank of 2nd Lieutenant, Jim Smith leads the Marksmen, whereas Jane Bloggs remains in Iron Arms and is responsible for the training of new recruits. A few months pass and Jim Smith's contribution has been outstanding, it is decided that he will be promoted to Lieutenant but will still remain in command of the Marksmen. Jane Bloggs on the other hand, has remained consistent but her contribution is judged to not warrant a promotion and she will remain as a 2nd Lieutenant.

Ideally this change will open up some competition within Command for places and attempt to diffuse the complacency that sets in after promotion.

Launch

This system goes live this evening at 8pm.

Promotional guidelines for both the grunt-track and officer-track have been updated and can be found here (http://www.grd-europa.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=24).

Applications for the NCO positions may now be made.

We have compiled a list of potential roles for NCOs to fill, however these are merely designed to act as a guide and we hope to tailor roles to the individual:

Junior Drill Officer (training junior ranks.)
Local Crime Officer (dealing with local criminals and low level cases.)
Crime Officer (dealing with international criminals and more serious crimes.)
Recruitment Officer (recruiting and replenishing the ranks.)
Community Officer (events involving both guardsmen and citizens, and events involving Grd and its allies.)
Senior Drill Officer (training senior ranks.)
Night Watch Officer (late night events for those outside civilised timezones.)

If you are interested in any of the above roles, or simply interested in becoming an NCO at all, please either PM me (http://www.grd-europa.co.uk/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=1) or contact me via ICQ on 125548430 and simply ask about becoming an NCO.
