Appearance

Ian is rather pale, and has the appearance of a young man. No battleworn, rough skin is visible on his hands or face, not the slightest scar. His dark hair has been made into two pigtails which he sometimes regrets having, not the manliest of features he thinks. Green eyes are the colour that one may see, if he dares to look you in the eye. Ian stands approximately 6 feet, with a low muscular build.

History

Growing up in the forests of Yew to an ordinary mother and a rather rough father, he learnt as many other children the art of lumberjacking. When Ian was born, his twin sister Alexandra died when his mother gave birth. For some reason his father always blamed Ian for the death of his daughter, though his mother did not. Ian was often picked on by the other children that lived nearby, coming home bruised and bloody. Being a weak son, his father always tried to make him fight back hitting him as an excuse to beat him up for his sister’s death. This was not a problem until his mother died. Subsequent to this the beatings became more frequent, and fiercer. Soon he could take no more and ran away. Having nowhere to turn to, he came across the militia a rainy night and found his new home.

Guardsman Career

In the short time Ian has been with the militia, he has built up reputation of an insecure and fragile guard. Though trying his best he never seems to fit in among the other guards. He dislikes social events because of his shy behaviour, avoiding them whenever he can.

Personality

Ian is a shy and nervous young man at the age of 21. He often stutters when nervous, though speaks rather normal around those he feels comfortable with. He is well aware of his situation and is therefore very ashamed of his “weakness”. He struggles to become the better guard he wishes to be, like his much spoken of relative Griffith Sutherns. Spite of his intimidated way of behaviour, he is very passionate about his career, looking to become a strong and tough guard which can handle any situation.

He loves to spend time in the forest where he can chop wood and make use of himself. His axe and bow are his two favourite weapons of war. He thrives within the mastery of marksmanship and the brutal way of the axe, whereas he hopes to become a respected warrior in the militia. He is often seen wandering around with his bow on his back and axe in hand greeting a passing citizen on the road.
Ian’s lack of social abilities makes him a lonely man in the militia. He addresses everyone with “Mister” or “Madam” which he picked up from a book he once read. He is a keen writer, and often writes in his journal on his bunk in the late evenings. He tries not to show this side of himself to anyone in fear of creating a weaker image of himself.

Alignment

Lawful Neutral

Ian is a kind soul, and would rather let a fly live than see it die. He tries to uphold the law to the best of ability, and stays out of trouble.

“Lawful neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you are reliable and honourable without being a zealot.”

Motivation/Goals

Ian wishes to follow the footsteps of his well respected relative, Griffith Sutherns. He looks up to the strong, calm and disciplined guards of the militia. One of his goals is to become a great shot with the bow, and hard cleave with his axe.

“Learn well your grammar,
And never stammer,
Write well and neatly,
And sing soft sweetly,
Drink tea, not coffee;
Never eat toffee,
Eat bread with butter,
Once more don't stutter.”
