As I was board I took a look at the trainee's orders. I found that there had been a big event at the Abbey. I decided to check it out. The beds was nasty and dirty, the floors and walls had mud, blood, and spit all over them. I thought to myself, I should have just gotten everything I needed before i come here.
I ran to the Keep and grabbed a mop, broom, shovel, new beding and bucket. I went back to the Abbey. I first swep out the room where the beds was. Then I made each bed. Then I Mopped those dirty and nasty floors. This took several hours to just do all the beds and rooms.
After finishing all the rooms and bed I took few moments to relax. I went to work cleaning the lobby area of the Abbey. I found some body parts and what looked like a horse head. I am sure these body part belonged to aanimal of some kind. As I worked my way toward the doorway to the other part of the Abbey. I found 200 gold just laying on the ground. Not knowing whom this belong to I put it in the Treasury.
After cleaning the rear of the Abbey I thought I would take another break. I went out to the bay and just ate me a little food. Then I went back to work ont the second floor. Dusting the bookcases and sweeping them floors. they did not have the blood and all that nasty crap. This floor was much easier. I then mopped that floor and the library rooms. I also mopped the Steps on both sides.
After this I took last break before finishing. I sweep all the mess into my shovel and put it into my bucket. I found a big pit out behind the Abbey and dumped it in there. Well I was doing well had the floors in all the rooms and second floor done, nade all them beds. thought it was going well. It I was mopping and hit a slick spot in the floor. Well my arse went to the floor. I got up and thought I would finish it without anymore issues. Now I am just pass the first Pillers and this man come running in. Him told me that it was a robber. To hand him all my gold, food, Bandies, And anything worth gold. I told this man that I had nothing worth a damn on me and that he was under arrest.
He laught at me and saaid catch me if you can. I dropped my mop and took off after him. Well as I as heading out the doors he slammed them in my face. This mad me angry. I looked around the winery and the Abbey not finding him. Went back to work and I had to remop the area I fell in. thinking to myself I know that spot where I fell. I be damn that I did not hit that same spot. Down I went again, I got up and seen I was bleeding from my nose.
TI finished up my work and headed back to the keep. Where this man the hit me with the door was there. I told him that he was under arrest and that if he forced me to I would use all means to arrest him. Well needless to say this man used magic. He disappeared out of nowhere. I put the cleaning supplies back in workshop and went home.

As I have been lodging in the Abbey since my return home to Yew and much of that time has been spent convalescing, I offered my services to help with the daily upkeep of the place as a small token of my thanks to the friars there.

I started by cleaning the rented rooms. Scrubbing the floors, making beds and polishing furniture. I also hepled to lay the table for breakfast, tidy up the library areas as well as scrubbing the steps and cleaning the chapel.

The friars seemed to be happy enough with my work and so with my chores done I headed into the Keep to collect my wages.

Cleaning the Empath Abbey - a report by Peter Fox, trainee.

I heard from another trainee that there is a standing order to clean the Abbey. Since I've been doing dirty work ever since I signed up as a trainee, I jumped at the opportunity to make something clean, rather than the opposite!

Now, to do any job right, you need proper tools. In a cleaning closet I found what items I needed to do the job and set out towards the abbey. When I arrived there, I looked around. With a deep sigh, I realized I'd probably be in there all day and that I perhaps had jumped at the task a bit too fast! There was dust and spider webs everywhere, and even a pig!

Reporting for duty to a monk.

Gettin' down and dirty, well.. down and clean I should say!

Taking extra care in the chapel, this room should always be spotless!

Gettin' rid of the pig. Pigs inside, really. What are we, barbarians?

Finished, and damn proud. My fingers may look like dried up grapes, but the Abbey is spotless!

I've heard plenty of the Guardsmen talk about the Empath Abbey, As I've never been there myself, I've heard that ALOT of wars took place down there... The Empath Abbey was a place for them to get thier wounds cleaned or some died on the bed. I decided to go and check the place out for myself. And I tell you I was up for a BIG suprise. The Abbey recked of a bad smell. The floors were fealthy, there was dried blood, dried mud, and boot marks everywhere! The walls were fealthy, the dishes were just nasty, plants looked horrible, books were scattered everywhere. But nothing could beat one horrible thing, the rooms..... The rooms had a smell to them of a rust sent, the sheets were dirty and I mean dirty! Dirty bandages scattered the entire room floor. The place was just in bad shape.

Then I began to think about it, and I thought to myself... Bella, this Abbey is apart of your town, your Militia. Many of your fellow Guardsmen have been in these beds wounded and bleeding to death serving your town. You must do something........................ I had a thought....

So I then went to the City and gathered some materials. Some materials that would make this place sparkle like a big white diamond! Smell like a beautiful womans perfume! I went back after gathering my materials.... I began in the rooms first, wiped the dressers, wiped the beds, the tables, put fresh new sheets, and scrubbed the floor, scrubbed the floor like I've never scrubbed before. I watered the plants in the hallways, and clipped the dead leaves off of the plants. Threw the old dishes out and put some fresh new ones on the dinning table, adding some fresh fruits. Then started with the floors, working my way from the main entrance up the stairs, I swept the floor, i scrubbed the floor, then finally I could mop the floor, like it should be done. Worked my way upstairs to many many offices. I organized papers. I dusted the books and re-arranged them like they should be in the bookcase, In alphabetical order. Dusted the chairs and tables. Also did the floor the same way upstairs as I did downstairs.

After 7 long hours I was finally finished and really happy of what I did. My body was weak, my hands had blisters, and my hair was a mess! But I would do anything for the town of Yew. All my sweating has paid off! Like I said, The Empath Abbey looked like a HUGE crystal diamond and the smell was SO sweet!

It was just the beginning of the month, and already copper was running low. With a total of four mouths to feed, that isn't something you can simply ignore; it's no use just fulfilling your regular duties and waiting for your wages when there's a family with growing toddlers to support. And so, the task to help clean up the Empath Abbey caught my eye. Well, cleaning sounds easy enough when there isn't usually much of a mess, due to regular cleaning - but it seems to have been months since someone last set foot in that place with soap, water and a cloth. Whoever knew monks could live in such a filthy place. Oh, it was alright enough at the first glance, but my oh my, once you looked past the closed doors...

The battle against chaos had begun. The first thing I found was leftovers from some long past supper - most of the fruit had gone bad, and I swear that chicken was looking at me funny. With at least three eyes. And someone ought to teach them monks that leaving milk out on the table for longer than three days is not, I repeat not acceptable. I guess that's what you get for letting so many men live on their own. Having cleansed the dining hall of unwanted inhabitants, I ventured further into the libraries. Books and scrolls littered the floors, while there was many a gap in the shelves. Have they never heard of returning a book to its place after use? I sorted out their paperwork on the desk, leaving the scribes to deal with the exact contents. The hallways and stairs were all scrubbed and polished. Who knew they were so blindingly white? I could have sworn they were grey before.

Then, however, as I was making the countless beds in the dorms, another stench distracted me, originating from the closet. So many filthy robes! It made me wonder what they actually had left to wear by now. No wonder they wear the same brown (or is it brown?) robe every day you visit there. I bravely battled the filth of the clothing, washing it out and hanging it to dry by the grapevines, where they should pick up a rather pleasant aroma as well. The abbey's chapel was also seen to; the Lord should be most pleased with the new sparkle of his ankh.

Elaine O'Connor, Trainee.
