This is bearly edible!

With bears roaming every inch of the woods, many have taken drastic measures to cull the ever increasing population.

Unfortunately now we are left with a huge amount of bear meat and distinct absence of viable bear recipes.

You are to research and then cook a new recipe involving bear meat.

Well, as it seems we are in need of a good use for this bear meat, I decided to ask the local Yewish baker if she had any ideas. She suddenly started raving about a recipe she had tried once in a Britainian bar...ginger garlic bear. She said it was very easy to make, but very good. So I set out to buy the ingredients...garlic is very hard to track down around here! However, I managed to find some, as well as get a good deal on some in-season veg from a very nice farmer. Since we are lacking any decent stoves in the 'keep, I took my skillet to the workshop to use their forge. I was able to fry up the bear rather quickly, as bear is mostly fat anyways, and threw on some mashed garlic and ginger. I also decided to add my own take on it and threw in the veg. I took the bowl hesitantly to the dorms, sat down and had a taste...and I didn't die from it. It would almost be worth making again, if it weren't for trying to find that blasted garlic!

Well as a footmans order, I believe that this is the only way is to follow our orders. Well Corporal Ian Said he was hungery. So I journeied out and talked to the Cook of Yew. She said that she heard of Bear stew, and gaxe me the recipe.
The recipe had the following ingredients in it. it Had Potatos,Carrots, Corn, peas, gralic, and tomato soup. First I found me the smallest bear so I did not waste much meat, then I fried themeat andcooked all the Vegies, mixed Garlic in to tomato soup. After cooking it all I mixed all the ingredents in to pot and cooked for 5 more minutes.
I found a lost dog and cat out side my house. They looked like they had not eatin in a while so I had xtra meat so I brought them in and feed them the leftover meat. I think if someone doesn't claim them soon I will keep the for pets.
I then took the food and pets up to table we sat an ate the food. Was just little tad to much gralic for me, But I would eat it again. Did not die or need a medic, so therefore the food was good. And I will give Corporal Ian his share. An I hope the Corporal enjoys it as well as I did.

I was talking about cooking the bear meat with Kevin Longshot before I started and he gave me some useful information. He mentioned how his wife would include Garlic and herbs whilst cooking with her meat. He also mentioned about what I put into it because it could kill me. So I took in what information he had to offer and set off to see what I could find in the wild as I wanted to collect the ingredients myself.

Ingredients I collected:

-Garlic
-Sage and mint
-Mushrooms
-Black Bear Meat

I was indeed careful with what I picked I saw some poisonous looking thigns and didn't dare include them in the recipe. I only took the things that looks nutritious and safe to eat.

It tasted lush! thanks very much for Kevin for giving me tips on his wife's recipes it gave me hints as to what to look for.

Having read that recipes for how to cook bear meat were in short supply, and being a rather boring an unimaginative chef myself, I decided to broaden my dietary horizons a bit and try to take some cultural influences for my recipe. So, after obtaining a fair bit of bear meat of course, I set out to find the chef with the best idea for what kind of cultural food I should bring back to Stonekeep and the Militia...

I heard of a challenge of cooking. It was to use bear meat in a recipe. Well as I love to cook as well as fight. My dad use to make a meat pie with 4 different kinds of meat. So I went to him he help me out with this. Dad even taste tested it after I made one. He loved it and wanted more. I had to tell him sorry. Not only did dad love my sister's family did as well. I ate one wholepie my self.
My recipe has bear meat, Beef, Rabbit meat and chicken, corn, potatos, carrots, onions, and 1/2cup rum. My family has lived on this many years. And the meat comes easily. My siter lives on a farm where I can get my Veggies. There for I could make other bear meat meals. I even got Waywatchers Lucius oand Annwyn to taste it. Lucius had seconds.

I was quite hungry last night. But I wanted something new, That I've never tried before. My head started hurting as I though and thought about what to cook. I made my way to a Library. There I went threw some recipies and came across a recipe titled "Bear Stew". Then I smiled to myself and thought thats the one! So I wrote down everything I need and my directions on how to make it. Quickly but the recipe back and went to the garden. Pulled some onions and carrots I needed. Went to the farmer for some other things. Went home and started cooking. My entire home quickly began to have a warm smell of bear stew. Baked a fresh apple pie for dessert also. My bear stew was ready for a Guardsmen to eat with a glass of wine and a piece of apple pie for dessert.

I got the orders of helping out in the kitchen and decided to do my very best about the situation. Grilled bear, boiled bear and fried bear tend to get boring after a while.

http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/1481/edible01.png

At first I did not know where to turn. I do not know any cooks or chefs in Yew, and my cousin Ash just laughed at me when I asked for ideas. True, Ash's cooking have given me the occasional belly ache in the past. One evening when I was in the inn, asking myself where to turn, I suddenly got this great idea!

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/5240/edible02.png

Yes, everyone knows that the creatures of the forest eats the bears. I managed to find one of those odd monsters without a head, and this is how our conversation played out:
Me: Excuse me, sir?
Headless one: ...
Me: I was wondering about cooking.
Headless one: ...
Me: Uh... ehm... do.. eh. Oh! How silly of me, you don't have a mouth, do you?
Headless one: ...
We shared a laugh about my mistake before I killed the creature and went on. It took quite a while before I happened upon an Ogre.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/8229/edible03.png

His name was Orgufh, and he told me in secrecy that he always was considered the chef amongst the other Ogres. I was terribly excited, and asked for his best recipes. This is what he gave me:

The Ogre Meal (basic recipe)
This is the basic recipe which is standard among almost all Ogre meals. It might take a few tries to master the third part, but after that is completed, it should all go well.
Chase after the bear
Grab the bear by the neck
Break the neck
Shake the now dead bear it a bit
Dip it in a barrel of salt
Ready to eat

The wimpy Ogre
One of the most advanced meals prepared by the Ogre kitchen. As you can guess by the name, you are not a real Ogre if you make this. The usage of an open flame makes it hard for just anyone to make this delicacy.

Chase after the bear
Grab the bear by the neck
Break the neck
Shake the now dead bear it a bit
Hold the dead bear over a fire for a bit
Ready to eat

The strong Ogre
This variation is for someone who likes spicy meals. This is most commonly found in the southern part of the continent. Very popular with the tourists.

Chase after the bear
Grab the bear by the neck
Break the neck
Shake the now dead bear it a bit
Dip it in a barrel of chilli
Ready to eat

Tough Guy
Popular by wandering Ogres and adventures who doesn't always have a barrel of salt. However you must be a real tough guy to be able to handle the raw meat.

Chase after the bear
Grab the bear by the neck
Break the neck
Shake the now dead bear it a bit
Ready to eat

Soup for Ogres
A warm and thick soup for real men. Often eaten when you caught a cold to help become better.

Chase after the bear
Grab the bear by the neck
Break the neck
Shake the now dead bear it a bit
Put in a barrel of water
Ready to eat

Vampire killer
Named after the strong garlic breath you get after ingesting this dish. It got an extra step which the basic recipe doesn't have, so it is only prepared for special occasions since it takes longer to make.

Chase after the bear
Grab the bear by the neck
Break the neck
Shake the now dead bear it a bit
Dip it in a barrel of salt
Put garlic around the feet of the animal.
Ready to eat

I took the liberty to prepare the basic meal and put a barrel of salt in the tavern, for anyone who might want to taste these rare Ogre delicacies.

Honey-glazed bear with mushrooms and vegetables

You need:
1 fresh slab of bear
2 medium onions
1 turnip
1 carrot, peeled
2 hands of mushrooms
1 small clove of garlic

Wash and cut vegetables and mushrooms, fry lightly in saucepan with butter. Marinade meat as you like, glaze with honey and roast until done.

Well, it seemed easy enough and sounded good when I first thought of it. I gathered my ingredients, eager to put all the extra meat to a good, edible use. Lacking butter, I decided the recipe was more of a guideline than a strict set of instructions - cocoa butter would do, I thought. It was the only thing I could find in the house. The saucepan, too, was hiding somewhere in the pile of dirty dishes, so I chopped the stuff and put it in a kettle over the fire with the cocoa butter. It's almost the same thing as frying, anyway.

The meat was fresh, so I figured marinading was not needed - well lathered in honey and garlic, I put it in a baking pan in the oven. What a simple recipe, or so I thought. Roasts do take their time; somewhere along the line of waiting for the meat to stop oozing blood I must have dozed off for a moment. A moment only, I tell you - but these bears are tricky, even after death.

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/6793/cook1j.png

As it looked, the meat had turned a tad brown, and the side dish had lost its original color - but those are the casualties of kitchen war, alas. Scraping the remains out of the kettle and carving off chips of the bear roast, I arranged it prettily with the leftover garlic and a slice of bread. It smelled rather strange, so I decided to leave it for a gypsy or someone outside.

Not long after, I found a hungry passer-by. Her body is currently being examined.

Additional cooking notes:
Stick to recipe.
Reduce baking time.
Replace bear meat with more suitable meat.
Replace results with food before recipient notices.

Sincerely,
Elaine O'Connor, Footman.

Dinner time! Yet...I did not know what I wanted to eat. So I decided to head towards Yew's butcher shop and check out their specials. The butcher told me of their favorite recipe which includes bear meat.

- 1 stone of tenderized bear steak
- 1 pinch of fresh herbs
- 1 wild mushroom
- 2 bottles of the strongest liquor you own

Claiming that liquor will burn away and give it a great taste, I trusted the butcher. I quickly scoured the forest for the herbs and mushrooms. Finally, with those in my bag, I tracked down a bear. Killing him and taking his meat, I rushed home to try this fine meal as my belly was yelling at me!

Mixing everything together, I waited as the steaks cooked. The smell was delicious! Once it was complete, I couldnt help but shovel it down. It was the best meal I've ever had. Within moments I was finished. Putting the dishes away, I started to head upstairs, yet I suddenly felt extremly woozy...The floor just came rushing at me and th..ZzzZzZzzZ
