25/05/372 Snatching Sheep...
I came to Stonekeep perhaps too late in the day, not a guardsmen in sight. One or two citizens strolled by but honestly you could hear a pin drop. I stared down the road waiting for something to happen like most lazy guardsmen do and thought better of myself.
I set off to read the boards and see what trouble I could resolve. There were notes about challenging other guardsmen to duals and siege equipment building orders but none of this interested me. Just before walking away to go back and stare into the bliss down the road, I noticed something. A small poster regarding Snatching Sheep, it read; “For whatever devious purposes it has become apparent that someone somewhere has taken to stealing sheep right from their pens” Time to investigate I thought.
I headed west from Stonekeep until I got to the sheep pens. I figured this was the best place for me to start as apparently this is where the sheep had been stolen from. When I arrived the sheep pen looked less lively, no little lambs running around kicking their hoofs. In fact most of them just coiled away in the corners, very odd. As I walked towards the gates I noticed what seemed to be remains. Cracked bones and wool were strewn about; whatever was stealing these sheep wasn’t being gentle about it.
I walked further up the road to see if I could find anything else. Low and behold a whole sheep carcass lay in the middle of the road. It looked like something had been eating this one. It was starting to become obvious that it wasn’t someone that was stealing the sheep, it was something.
Onwards I went, until I ran into an odd looking man wearing armour and carrying a blade, suspicious I thought. “Halt!” I stopped him and asked him where he was heading. He explained that his father was a farmer in Yew and he had sent him out to hunt and kill wild dogs that were killing his livestock. It was all starting to come together, these wild dogs had to be the same culprits who were stealing the sheep from the pens. I went to the boy’s farm and talked with his father. He showed me more brutal dead carcasses, no wonder the sheep at the pen were so frightened.
I knew what I had to do search for the wild dogs and kill them Besieger style. I was not even 100 paces away from the farmers field when I seen one. It was eating away at another dead sheep, its blood and flesh dripping from the rabid dog’s mouth. I stepped towards the animal and it turned to me for only a quick second and let out a vicious bark before it ran off. No doubt the mere sight of my Besieger armour scared the animal. I gave chase but to no avail the bleeding dog ran like the wind. As I watched the dog weave its way into a cornfield, I realized what had to be done. A cull of all the dogs in Yew! I would return to Stonekeep with my findings and post this report for the Captains and Corporals to see and make a decision.

The issue of this sheep-snatching was brought to my attention this morning. As I went to collect some wool to produce some bandages, I was horrified by the sight of dead sheep. Not only are these sheep being snatched, but slain in their own pens! The wool was still on their backs, so I wondered what the motive could possibly be for these animals? On closer inspection, I also discovered that no raw meat had been carved from their bodies either. A truly bizarre situation.

I walked to the next of the three sheep pens, only to discover that it was lacking a number of its usual habitants.

I did some reading of reports from Guardsmen, to rule them out as apparent sheep-killing suspects, as Guardsmen are frequent shearers of these Yewish sheep. I dug out a report of a talent show, involving a certain “William Smit” in his junior ranks. There was sad mentionings of him having some involvement with activities revolving around bestiality. On continuous reading – to my dismay - I found that his area of “expertise” was revolving around goats and sheep. So… I trundled on to seek out Besieger Smit.

Footman Grindhouse happened to be in Stonekeep, and I asked him of Smit’s whereabouts. He stated that he was on leave from duties. Therefore, the search must go on without him!

I went back to the second pen, and inspected it closely, walking around the perimeter.. Around the right hand quarter, I discovered a hole in the fence: It was missing a single stave, which looked sheep-sized. There were tracks leading from the sheep pen, so I followed them along north-east, until I got to the allotments. Looking around, there they were; four missing sheep, grazing peacefully on the cabbages. I shook my head in wonder and left them to it. I would tell the shepherd their whereabouts and to keep an eye on them, for goodness sake!

Even though I may not have found the culprit of the slaughtered sheep, I did find the missing ones, and what they set out to achieve. I advise that the owners of these vegetable patches keep an eye on their precious vegetables!
I examined all the rest of the pens and made sure their staves were correctly in-place. As a precaution, I nailed a new stave onto the fence with the missing stave. Hopefully, the sheep will not stray again.

I waltzed over to the sheep pens today to cut some of their lovely wool into fresh bandages but to my suprisemnet nearly all of em had vanished!
I checked all over yew in all the open ground but I could only find the odd one or two sheep scattered around Yew. Knowing that they usually stay in the one flock in the pens it seemed impossible that they all went off in their own direction so I had to resort to checking inside buildings to find where the flock of sheep were.
After checking a few of the houses I must've had a lucky pick because it was jsut the third house i visited I had found em. Some sick person had thought it of been funny to herd them all into a small room where noone would find em the house had noone home either.
Anyways since I'd found em I lured em all back safely into their sheep pen where they all started the act all happy again and I was pleased I had helped Yew out. It wasn't easy luring them though some of them were a bit crazed from their experienced and were biting and ramming me as I was taking them back to their pen area. I'm a tough guardsmen though so it didn't bother me much.

Well there has been reports of lost or stolen Sheep. Therefore I went to the sheep pen just west of Stone Keep. Where I talked to Laurel the Shepard. Where I found out that yes she has had some sheep come up missing. I asked her if she had a count of how many she has lost. She said she thought around 100 sheep abd few other pets. I then asked her what kind of pets other than the sheep she had lost. Laural the said she had goats and her cotton supplies taken.
I then asked her if she had any idea of a time frame this has been happening. She told me She believes late night. I then asked her if she had seen anyone or thing around that normally is not there. She said that she had seen some orges, bandits, and a elf named Hagen d'Tronje. I then asked her if she had anything else to report. She then told me this elf or what ever it is that is causing this also killed 3 of er finest sheep dogs. She then said she feared her safety. I ensured her she was safe, that the Guardsmen are now on the case.
I then search the area and found some tracks. These tracks went east, but I desided to search the whole field and woods first. I went to the road just due west all I found there is a mongbat. Witch did not stand any chance. Sence we are having sheep come up missing here, I felt the sence of safety for Laural would to be kill all dangerous creatures. I then went to the northside of the pen. Where I found some horse print in the ground. I then took closer look. These prints was the same one that was in front of pen by gates. So I followed them to the East, where the lead to a big house. Just on the outskirts of the pen.
I then looked around the outside of this house to find several piles of wool on the front steps. I then tried the door handles and to my suprise the was unlocked. Before I entered I knocked 3 times. Then I opened door and then yelled GUARDSMEN MILITIA anyone home. Well not answer I seen several more piles of wool ont he floor. I felt this gave good evidence to search the house. As I entered door there was several piles of wool on the floor. I searched the first floor found no one or thing.
I then went to second floor, as I clumb the steps, I got the worst smell I had ever smelled before. When I topped the steps I looked to my right and seen some kind of alter. Thinking to myself Wytchery, And as I neared thi s alter I could see a sheep. When I got closer I found three sheep in center of alter. I thought this was wierd so I went back to Keep. I thought I would file thios as a wytchery report. That i would alert it as well.
As I come around corner from the north I met Mr. d'Tronje. I fisrt asked him his business here being so close to sheep pens. He in return smarted off what is your business here. I informed him that I was a guardsmen and that I needed to question him about some sheep. He all at once got shakey and tongue twisted. Then he offered me to go to a town named Fel. I refused his offer and told him, that he had taxes to pay. Then he refused, There are no other Guardsmen around. This man had blood dripping from his clothing and looks quite nasty.
I then desided to tell him to leave. Not knowing anything about him. the way he looked was a little unsettleing. So I hung back a little to see where he went. I lost him at the cemetery. This is also in the area of the sheep pen and the house. I returned to the pen and it was all clear. I then desided to go to Keep. Where I einform first waywatcher Walker of this matter. I asked her if this could be wytchery, she said it would not supprise her. That this may be enough for warrent.
