Things were all quiet in Stone Keep, so Grace Ainsworth, Arthur Vines and myself set out on a patrol to Empath. For the first part of the journey I lead and Arthur took the rear.
After meeting a lone Skelly, which we dispatched quickly, We met a local.
Grace asked her some questions regarding the Abbey.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/Donedy/ou4.jpg
She didn't have information so we carried on into Yew.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/Donedy/ou5.jpg
We then changed roles in the patrol. Arthur lead and I went to the rear.
Upon reaching the Abbey Grace discovered for some reason the Abbey was hording water.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/Donedy/ou7.jpg
Once Arthur gained entry to Empath it was prayer time, so deciding all was well we thought it was best not to go in any further.
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/Donedy/ou8.jpg
Once out Arthur had a great idea to force march back to Stone Keep....
http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l196/Donedy/ou9.jpg
Once back I went to the Inn to write the report with a cheeky ale!

It was a quiet night in stonekeep so I thought why not compelte one of our assigned tasks. For this I lined up the trainees but Arthur Vines however was too tired so it was just Me and Donnie who went upto the Abbey to see if there was anyone to help.

On the way we came across a civilian who wished an escort to meet someone at the abbey. So we glady helped him there as he had no weapons we had to help him.

We made it to the abbey with no troubles and the man was very vrateful for our help and praised us for our work. Now that we had arrived at the Abbey it was time to do a search for the strange thing that we had heard a rumour about.

It didn't take long before we had found it and it was an animal cruelty act!! Someone had locked a chicken in an empty room for what had seemed to be months. It stank in there and the poor thing was as thin as twigs so me and Donnie had to get it outside into the wild again.

After the bird was outside of the Abbey we felt pleased that we had saved the day for the bird and releived the abbey of the bad thing going on inside it.

As I am a new trainee, Mohamed Tereas took me out on my first patrol. We came across a few wandering skeletons who had escaped the cemetary, but we made short work of them. We swang by the cemetary to ensure that the locks on the gate were intact, and slayed any skeletons that seemed hostile. (In other words - not staying under ground.)

Other than that, all was very quiet until we returned to Stonekeep. There, a horseman was halted and was very unwilling to do as told. An officer rushed out and told us to imprison the horseman, under the suspicion of murder. He was dismounted and Mohamed took carried him to a jail cell. We guarded him, mainly to ensure that he wasn't too badly hurt from the "carrying", and were later told to release him. The horseman closely resembled a wanted murderer, but it turned out it was not him.

Upon release, the horseman was very upset and rude, but told to be more quick to answer questions and obey commands next time, for less troublesome handling.

With last night's events fresh in mind, I today went on another patrol to the cemetary. Some skeletons had escaped the cemetary, and I proceeded to force them back. After a short while, a bone knight appeared and refused to return to the graveyard. As I'm a mere trainee, I felt uneased by it's presense and wanted the aid of more seasoned guardsmen.

http://www.gustnet.se/uo/Bone%20knight%201.jpg

I ran as quickly as I could back to Stonekeep, and found Tamm Sharpe there. He was swift to follow me, and we made haste back up to the cemetary.

http://www.gustnet.se/uo/Bone%20knight%202.jpg

There, the bone knight had now fouled the soil, and was awaiting us in the shadows. With the aid of Tamm, the battle was not long and the bone knight was defeated. Tamm got his head, and I cleaned up that the bone knight had made.

http://www.gustnet.se/uo/Bone%20knight%203.jpg

Afterwards, we patrolled the cemetary and repaired some holes in the fences, to make sure no more undead escaped it.

I will make sure to return the frequently for the days to come, since there seems to be much trouble and disturbance now.

Part I

*Penned this day by Llane Cavelryn, Trainee*
Date: Trammel waxing gibbous, Felucca in the first quarter.
Time: I’m unsure; it’s dark out.

Dear Reader,

Having successfully manicured the flora in the graveyard, I headed off for a routine patrol to the Abbey per standing orders.
(Report: http://www.grd-europa.co.uk/forum/showpost.php?p=10130&postcount=8)

What happened during this patrol was far from routine, however. I will be sending reports via pigeon as I am able. But perhaps I should start at the beginning…

I grew up in the woods of Northern Yew, near the Abbey. Saving you the details of my childhood, which are neither interesting nor do I have time, I spent much time educating myself in the Abbey’s libraries and was taught to read and write by the good monks there. I stopped by to see if anything was amiss, but it seems the earlier recruits had done a superb job of solving all their problems. They suggested I stop by the jail to see if they needed help.

[OOC: Bear in mind as you’re reading that I am new to UO, and that everything that follows was an actual discovery for both Llane and myself…]

I began my journey to the jail by speaking with a fellow I found named Andy. Although very cheerful, he did not have much of substance to say and the conversation seemed to go in circles…
http://i42.tinypic.com/iqbfjk.jpg
A fairly straightforward conversation.

I wandered through the jail for a bit. Leaning against a wall to rest, I suddenly fell through it. I will not comment on the proper use of tax money here, or the importance of good upkeep of our civic structures – especially those that house criminals – but this was disturbing, at the least.
http://i41.tinypic.com/250067k.jpg
This isn’t right at all…

I found my way through a series of secret passages, and ended up outside. Peering through a crack in the wall, I discovered what appeared to be a secret wytch haven! Searching for further secret doors or loose walls, I found my way into the odd tiny wytch haven in our own prision…
http://i42.tinypic.com/2extxr7.jpg
I’m sure there’s a good reason that this is here…

Searching the room for signs of who might be responsible, I found myself suddenly falling through the floor into a cavern lit only by slightly glowing mosses. After collecting myself, I journeyed through it…
http://i42.tinypic.com/zl7l9j.jpg
I’m not so sure there’s a good reason that this is here…

…and came out after a long walk into a lighthouse in what seemed to be a distant land. I took a reading from my sextant, and have sketched the coordinates and a map here for this report, should I not return.
http://i39.tinypic.com/117qmvq.jpg
Sextant location of the odd lighthouse… definitely not Yew.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2m3mlxh.jpg
Practicing my pirate

Inside, I found some odd books about Llamas and Taming Dragons. I wrote a note here, should further adventurers stumble upon this place so they should know they were not alone and take some measure of hope.
http://i42.tinypic.com/2ce2e53.jpg
Some odd books…

Unfortunately, I could not find my way back to the cavern that led to Yew. I must admit, being in a new land, I relied on the skills that I learned living off the land before joining the Guard. Rolling my ringmail up in my bedroll tightly, to prevent it from alerting nearby hostile creatures or brigands, I began sneaking around these odd foreign lands.

Sparing the long details, I spent what must have been hours walking around looking for a way back to Yew. I came across many beasts, most new but a few familiar, that I have detailed at the end of this report. Much of this land was desert, and I was in sore need of water.
http://i40.tinypic.com/1grhvr.jpg
It’s awfully dry around here.

Unfortunately, I had forgotten the first thing that Sir Ian told me when I joined – always keep your kit on you. Without tools or camping supplies, I was barely able to stay alive in these hostile climates. Below is a recap from my logging expedition, where I left my kit so as to carry more logs.
http://i41.tinypic.com/27ysb4n.jpg
I left my kit at home!

Finally, I stumbled across water – barely fit to drink. I created a stone “cauldron,” packing the sides with mud and dried plant matter. After drying it out, I boiled water in it to sanitize it, and finally was able to quench my near-deadly thirst.
http://i44.tinypic.com/35c1y0n.jpg
Finally, water…

Many fey and terrible creatures walked the area. Though the normal mongbats, ettins, and such wandered here as they do home, there were odd black elementals, and hordes of snake-people living in a building – who found me and nearly slew me, save my excellent running skills. Here are some sketches that I made of the various creatures that inhabited the area, should a Guard arrive in this forsaken place in the future.
http://i39.tinypic.com/9knrqd.jpg
Sketches in my journal of the local flora, fauna and beasts.

After many hours of wandering, I saw not a single human soul nor a dwelling like those that inhabit every corner of our lands. ‘Twas a lonely place.
http://i42.tinypic.com/mkcd21.jpg
A lonely place.

I shall send another pigeon as I find out more.

Part II – The Caverns

*This report arrives by pigeon*

Having spent the night sleeping uncomfortably in a crevice (thankfully not being disturbed by any of the creatures of this strange land) I continued my journey. I noticed a nearby cave, which I entered in hopes of finding some form of settlement or perhaps a place to set up a more permanent and secure base-camp with water and storage for food. The cavern was very hot, and there were women made of fire standing around it. Rushing past them into the cavern, I quickly found myself lost and unable to locate the enterance. Passing some strange men flying around on carpets who screamed in a strange language, I came to a bridge.
http://i40.tinypic.com/4h30qa.jpg
Not a good bridge to fall off.

Sneaking between formations of rock, I came across a band of undead – including a large lich population and skeletal witches that looked most sinister. Much of this cavern was bleak, hot, and filled with lava, and strange burning or fire-spitting creatures.
http://i39.tinypic.com/kbxb1s.jpg
Bone mages and liches

Even in this dark and unnatural place far beneath Sosaria, I found comfort in knowing that nature prevails eventually and balance is found in all things. Here is a sketch of some plants I found slowly reclaiming this forsaken location.
http://i41.tinypic.com/jfk97b.jpg
Nature prevails, even here.

I found a fiery steed, but my better judgment told me that attempting to tame it and ride it out was a poor idea.
http://i41.tinypic.com/2j1puo2.jpg
A fiery steed

One of the more adorable animals I came across was this cat. Upon closer inspection, however, it had glowing red eyes and appeared to be a demon of sorts as well. I left it without petting it.
http://i42.tinypic.com/1e30o1.jpg
A fiery kitty

After wandering through several levels of this dungeon and through a maze, I finally found a safe spot to rest in an abandoned building.
http://i40.tinypic.com/2mebkag.jpg
Taking a breather

Retracing my steps, I headed what I believe was Northeast for a while. Eventually, I began finding lesser beasts, not made of fire or possessed by demons. Giant rats, snakes, and the lot populated this area. Soon, I found why as I accidentally stumbled through an opening into the outdoors!
http://i41.tinypic.com/i5rd44.jpg
Out, at last.

Coming to the dock, I inquired as to where I was – apparently I had arrived in the fabled Serpent’s Hold, and it looked as if Ogres had recently attacked as their corpses littered the streets.
http://i44.tinypic.com/2ur88is.jpg
At the gates

Finding myself in sore need of food and supplies, I stopped by the local provisioner and spent what little coin I had collected from my earlier duty in the graveyard – I hope to replace it in the coffers soon, but I thought the Guard would understand my use of funds gathered on a mission under these circumstances.
http://i41.tinypic.com/oqfuo7.jpg

I restocked my kit as best as possible, and even found a new book I had not read.

I ate all 10 pieces of chicken.
http://i42.tinypic.com/otoq68.jpg
Ate all 10 pieces of chicken

Fed, supplied, and back amongst friendly (if foreign) people, I began searching for a means home. Apparently, no moongates exist here and there is no way I am returning through the cave I arrived by. I will update you via pigeon once I have figured out a plan to return to duty.

Part III – Homeward Bound

I am proud to report that I am writing this final piece of my report on the patrol of the Abbey (as it were) from the safety of Stonekeep. For once, I am glad to be out of the wild and surrounded by stone walls. Since my last report, you may remember I was stranded – no moongate, and the only known exit too dangerous to pass again.

While pondering my options, I remembered a discussion with Sir Leon before I joined regarding rebuilding the Yewish navy. Figuring that I had learned many things quickly, from reading and writing to learning the ways of the woods and how to camp and move quietly, I could learn sailing easily and take a boat home. Unfortunately, boats are rather expensive – over 10,000 gold for the smallest vessel. Having only a handful of coins remaining from my provisions, I set out into the woods to see if any ogres remained that might have treasure on them.

Unfortunately, the woods of Serpent’s Hold are far more dense and packed with venomous creatures than those of familiar Yew. I spent several hours slaying corpsers and giant snakes – which oddly were filled with gold – in order to collect enough funds for my trip home. As often as my prey fell to me, I fell ill to their poisonous bits – but at least I learned quite a bit about how to use a bow from range properly.
http://i40.tinypic.com/5yc9hs.jpg
Earning money for a ship by killing snakes

After several missions, walking all the way to and through the jail, trudging across deserts, sneaking through lava and lich filled caves, finding my way around a new city, and spending hours exhausted and slaying deadly snakes for tiny amounts of gold, I managed to purchase a ship. However, I realized quickly that placing and boarding a boat are extremely frustrating tasks. To make matters worse, citizens kept asking for my help and offering me gold – over and over and over again. I am a patient man, learned from many years of quietly stalking game over days in our fine woods, but I finally reached my breaking point when this pestering citizen kept bothering me while trying to learn how to get on a boat.
http://i43.tinypic.com/28spyqc.jpg
Breaking point

Finally, I got on the boat and, after reading about how to sail, got on my way. The tillerman stubbornly stopped every time I rammed the ship into land – leading to some exploration of strange islands, much seasickness, and more frustration. I am never getting on a boat again – corsairs be damned.
http://i42.tinypic.com/npkgua.jpg
I’m a veteran sailor… er…

After what seemed an eternity at sea, I finally caught sight of familiar places – Trinsic! Landing the boat, I quickly hopped off and started making my way through more familiar territory.
http://i41.tinypic.com/352kzzq.jpg
Landing near Trinsic

Coming through the moongate, I force marched all the way back to Stonekeep. After a few ales, I wrote this report, and returned to sleep.
http://i42.tinypic.com/300dyxv.jpg
Home, finally.

Here is a map of my journey, as best as I could reconstruct it for future use of anyone else who is foolish enough to go exploring alone without a kit.
http://i43.tinypic.com/2drtlqe.jpg
A map of my journey.

Things I learned:
-How to sail
-I hate boats
-The names and habits of many new creatures
-Snake people are very, very dangerous and can spot you when hidden
-Orcs are as stupid and easy to hunt anywhere in the world
-How to keep range with a bow when beasts are too dangerous
-Several routes across the world
-Always keep your kit on you
-Desert survival
-A new appreciation for the safety of towns and other people
-Humility

I went off on a patrol of the Abbey as ordered to do so. Whilst walking abouts I heard an awful sound coming from the sheep farm!

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/1.jpg

I ran directly to the house to make sure no one was in trouble of any sort! Ye can never be too sure, an well when I arrived I realized I had been here before. Twas the old woman with the dead animals I had met only weeks before. She looked as frightened as I did an so I asked her quickly what was wrong.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/4.jpg

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/5.jpg

She went on to tell me a few Vesperians had been harassing her sheep, an that was what the ruckus was about! I had my reservations as clearly the old lady was more than a bit off, but I agreed to investigate.

I slowly made my way to the sheep pen, where I found no evidence of harassment of said Sheep. That is not to say there had been none, just not a Vesperian in sight, nor any evidence to suggest there had been one there recently.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/2.jpg

I decided to make my way to the Abbey from there.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/11.jpg

I made sure to ask anyone I came across if a they had seen any Vesperians an the like..

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/7.jpg

Not a single soul was helpful, which is a good thing perhaps. I then made my way to the Winery. All seemed well enough suppose. A few questionably sober Monks perhaps, but otherwise, all seemed well.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/8.jpg

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/9.jpg

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/10.jpg

I then checked out the Abbey itself, an noted that the water supply was much less than previously reported.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/12.jpg

I made my way inside, and then took a look around a bit..

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/13.jpg

..and then made my way upstairs.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/14.jpg

I was shocked to find a small bit of nightshade just laying on the staircase! I quickly disposed of the substance, and made my way upstairs to see if there was anyone I could question about this.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/15.jpg

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/16.jpg

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/17.jpg

..I had located a Monk of some sort, but she was anything but helpful. She stared at me an then just wandered away. Perhaps it is cause for further investigation as she did not seem to be capable of holding a conversation even!

I lastly made my way back downstairs after making sure there was no more nightshade hidden about to inquire about news of the area..

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/Ungracefulexit/Abbey/18.jpg

Thankfully, it seemed all was rather peaceful!

]I was just hanging around the Stone Keep and got little board. I went to the notice board and found this order. The Captain said to patrol to the Abbe, that it could be done with a unit or alone. I desided to got it alone. I headed to the crossroads north of Keep. Then desided to got to the north. I had not seen anyone or anything to this point. I come to another crossroads and took a break. At this time nothing was wrong.
I then Headed west toward the Abbey. I found a lost pet of someones, I bent down and peted it and looked at its tags. This pet lived close by so I left it alone. Mrs. Nelson would be mad to have to come to Keep to fetch her dog. I did go to Mrs. Nelson and fined her seventy five copper for the dog running lose. She was mad, said all that you Guardsmen want is money. I explained to her that there could be dangers to her pet if someone wanted to harm it. She Said that the dog just will not listen to her. I suggested she get a lesh.
I then went on toward Abbey. Coming upon Farmer Brice, She was complaining of a thief in town and a llama eatting her veggies. She also had a name for this thief, name was Adair. I asured her that all would be fine. I went on and come to the rancher named Jasper, whom also was bitchy due to this thief. I asked him if he knew anything of what this thief looked like. He said no just get. So I did, I rounded the turn and met Ainsley a artist. The artist said a thief robbed him of a painting. Said he asked him to draw his picture and he would pay him.
Well by this time I was getting tired of hearing about this thief. I went to the winery. Where as soon as I walked in the doors. The barkeep yelled the thief robbed me and stole my wine. This barkeeps name was Ordana. The monks next door come rite out and said this thief stole there fruits. I told them I would ask and look around, they told me that it was about time one of the Guardsmen come around. I then went to Abbey.
Where mintor Barton was mad about a man tring to rob the Abbey. Said this man come in and rented room then left evil creature in room and tried to rob him. Said that the Llama had to go, he did not care how. So I went into the room and Killed the Llama. Then when I come out Barton said there goes the thief. I chased this man, to the point where I guess he knew he could not get away from me. I ordered him to leave town or pay for the trouble he caused, he said piss off. I then told him, that he was under arrest for theft and robbery.
Said Guardsmen you won't take me alive. I said SIR this is not how you want this. YOU WILL DIE. He wave a knife at me, I dodged it. I warned him that if he did not stop he was going to get injuried or killed. He throw the knife at me and pulled out a bigger one. I said this will be last warning SIR. He told me to piss off and threw the other knife at me barely missing my arm. I told him to lay on the ground and that he was under arrest. He then pulled out a Sword and started swinging it. At this point I had have had enough. I drawed my longsword and whipped him til he was dead. I looked at the body ,and said I did not want this.
After this happened I searched his body and bags found five different fruits that I was sure belonged to monks, four different wines from winery, some chicken that could have been Mr. Jasper's, and some corn, carrots, potatos, and muddy shoes. As I was searching the body Sterling who liked to fight come to me and said you like to kill people. I said no, this man was a thief. He then said this is my brother, he is no thief. I showed him the thing and said be gone or you will go to jail. He turned and ran fastly away. I got to thinking, just maybe a team of thiefs. I tried to find him, but could not.
Then I returned to Keep.

After receiving my wages and spending a little time in the tavern Calla joined me on a patrol to the Abbey. We encountered a few citizens along our way. Always being careful to enquire after their well being. A lone skeleton roaming the woods near the graveyad was the only threat we encountered on our journey.

http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/1535/cullen12.jpg

Once at the abbey we again made sure all was well with the monks and made checks of the many rooms to ensure everything was in order. Nothing much to report other than a wealth of books and some very good watercolours.

We encountered a few adventurers asking for directions to various areas of Yew and we did our best to help then along their way.

As ordered I went to the Abbey. As soon as I got there, Eric told me he had been waiting for someone of us Guardsmen to come, since brother Daniels had a problem. Daniels was quite panic-stricken when I saw him, since somehow a deer had managed to walk into the Abbey and had been eating out of their pantry.

(argh! I got the text colour wrong on the last frame, and I don't have the original photoshop file left, you'll have to live with it)

However, I solved it as per Daniels' suggestion and they replaced the lost grain with some fresh meat instead.

I set off in the early afternoon of Saturday to check if all was well at the Abbey, other than a pesking mongbat lurking for another victim at the doors everything seemed in order. After checking with the staff and monks at the Abbey I decided that there was no further need for me to trudge around there, so I set off back to Stonekeep.
